IT Services for Dallas-Fort Worth Distributors and Wholesalers

Keep the Warehouse Running, the Trucks Loaded, and the Orders Moving

Distribution and wholesale businesses live and die by uptime. When the warehouse network drops, scanners stop, EDI orders stall, label printers go offline, or the WMS hangs, every minute costs shipments and customer trust. Modo Networks runs the IT backbone for Dallas-Fort Worth distributors so the network, endpoints, security, backup, and helpdesk all work together to keep product moving.

IT Built Around How Distribution Actually Operates

Distribution and wholesale businesses run on a stack most generic IT providers never see up close. The warehouse floor depends on rugged Wi-Fi coverage that handles forklifts, mobile barcode scanners, and label printers without dropping connections halfway down an aisle. The order pipeline depends on EDI feeds with retailers and manufacturers staying clean and on time. The WMS has to stay up, the ERP has to talk to the WMS, and the office side - sales, purchasing, accounting, customer service - has to keep working while the warehouse runs second shift behind them.

Modo Networks supports distributors and wholesalers across Dallas-Fort Worth - including the heavy distribution corridors in Irving, Fort Worth, and Grand Prairie - by running the IT backbone these operations need: the network, the endpoints, the security stack, the backups, and the helpdesk. We are not a warehouse-management software vendor. What we do is make sure the infrastructure your WMS, ERP, EDI, and scanner fleet sit on is reliable, monitored, and secure, and we partner with WMS specialists when warehouse software work is needed.

The hook that brings most distributors to us is one of three things. Either the network is unreliable and scanner downtime is hurting throughput, or a vendor portal or EDI partner just got hit with ransomware and now the customer is asking hard questions about your security posture, or private equity has shown up - either as a new owner or as a buyer in a rollup - and IT due diligence has surfaced gaps that need to be closed before the next transaction.

How We Support Distribution and Wholesale Businesses

Multi-Warehouse Connectivity

Multi-Warehouse Connectivity

Distribution rarely happens at one address. We design the network that connects your warehouses, branch offices, and remote sales staff so EDI, WMS, and ERP traffic moves cleanly between sites without VPN headaches or random outages.

Warehouse-Grade Wi-Fi

Warehouse-Grade Wi-Fi

Forklifts, scanners, and label printers do not forgive dead zones. We assess coverage end to end, fix the dropouts that are killing scan rates, and design Wi-Fi that holds up across racking, dock doors, and second-shift density.

WMS and EDI Uptime Monitoring

WMS and EDI Uptime Monitoring

We monitor the infrastructure your WMS and EDI run on - servers, network paths, integrations, scheduled jobs - so failures get caught before a customer sees a late shipment or a missed 856 advance ship notice.

Backup Built for Distribution

Backup Built for Distribution

WMS databases, ERP data, EDI archives, and shipping records all need to be recoverable. We build backup that includes ransomware-resistant copies, fast local restore, and offsite cloud replication so a bad day stays a bad day instead of a bad quarter.

M&A IT Readiness

M&A IT Readiness

PE rollup activity in distribution is real and active. Whether you are being acquired, acquiring, or carving out a division, our M&A IT due diligence team gives buyers and sellers a clear picture of the IT environment and an integration plan post-close.

Vendor Portal and Email Security

Vendor Portal and Email Security

Most ransomware events in distribution start with a compromised vendor portal login or a phishing email. We harden access to retailer and supplier portals with MFA and conditional access, lock down email, and run security awareness training that fits warehouse and office staff alike.

How It Works

1

Distribution IT Assessment

We walk the warehouse, document the network, inventory scanners and printers, review EDI and WMS infrastructure, look at the security stack, and identify the gaps that are most likely to cause downtime or a security incident.

2

Stabilize and Secure

First priority is stopping the bleeding - fix the Wi-Fi dead zones, get backup working and tested, get MFA on every account, and bring scanner and printer fleets under proper management so the operations team stops losing time to avoidable issues.

3

Run the Backbone

We take over day-to-day IT - helpdesk for warehouse and office, endpoint management, network monitoring, security operations, M365 administration, backup health, vendor coordination - and provide after-hours coverage for second-shift warehouse operations.

4

Plan Ahead

Quarterly reviews cover scanner and hardware lifecycle, security posture, EDI partner changes, M&A activity, and any infrastructure investments needed to support growth. We work with your WMS and EDI partners so technology decisions stay coordinated.

Distribution IT Services FAQ

Do you implement or customize warehouse-management software?

No. WMS implementation, configuration, and customization are specialist work, and we partner with WMS-focused firms for that. What we own is the infrastructure the WMS runs on - servers, network, endpoints, backup, security, and helpdesk - so the platform stays reliable and your WMS partner can do their job without infrastructure surprises.

How do you support EDI environments?

We support the IT side of EDI - the servers and connections that EDI software runs on, the network paths to your trading partners, the security around partner credentials, the backups that protect EDI archives, and the monitoring that catches when a feed has stopped. EDI mapping and translation work usually sits with a specialist EDI provider, and we coordinate with them so the technical environment behind their work is solid.

Can you handle after-hours coverage for second-shift warehouse operations?

Yes. Distribution rarely runs nine to five, and we provide helpdesk coverage that fits second-shift and weekend warehouse operations. When a scanner goes down at 9pm or a label printer fails on a Saturday morning shipment, your team gets a real response, not a voicemail.

What does ransomware look like in distribution and how do you protect against it?

The two most common entry points we see are compromised vendor portal credentials and phishing emails to office staff. The defenses are layered: MFA and conditional access on every account, EDR on every endpoint, email security that blocks the obvious phishing, security awareness training, and ransomware-resistant backups so if something does land, we can restore without paying. No single control is enough, which is why we run the stack together.

We are part of a PE rollup. Can you help with M&A IT work?

Yes. M&A activity in distribution is one of the most common reasons clients reach out to us. Our M&A IT due diligence team supports both sides of a transaction - pre-close assessment of the target's IT environment, integration planning and ongoing IT support for the combined entity. PE-backed distributors often consolidate IT across portfolio companies, and we work to that timeline.

How do you handle multi-warehouse or multi-location distributors?

We design the network so each location has the local services it needs - Wi-Fi, printing, scanning, voice - and a reliable connection back to whatever the central systems are, whether that is a primary data center, a colo, or cloud-hosted WMS and ERP. Centralized monitoring, consistent endpoint management, and shared identity (Microsoft 365 / Entra ID) keep the operation running like one company instead of a collection of branch IT silos.
